When water is added to psyllium husks, a soft gel forms and this results in softer and smoother waste elimination and encourages the presence of natural bacteria in the bowel.

Inulin is a naturally occurring prebiotic, or oligosaccharide (several simple sugars linked together), that is resistant to digestion in the stomach and intestines. It is metabolised in the colon by bigidobacteria and lactobacilli. Inulin stimulates the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria while simultaneously reducing the population of unfriendly bacteria in the colon.
